A Settler’s Cookbook

cookbookI’ve just bought this cookery book which is actually part autobiography part cook book.

Besides the cover design, it was the following words on the sleeve that caught my eye.  It explains how the author’s family history “is one of constant displacement and repeated relocation, in which the feeling of being settled has not come from putting down roots, but from taking up a pot and creating a feast that tastes and smells like home.  The Settler’s Cookbook follows this story and brings it to life by describing the food her family cooked.”  She came to the UK from Uganda in the ’70s.

The first step was buying it.  The next is reading it, trying out some recipes, and posting the results…
