Oregano (maybe) & Garlic

I inherited this plant, originally in a nice pot.  Left it in a sheltered spot during the winter, went to move it in early spring and it broke.  It’s now planted in the ground and thriving.

Late-Night Pottering

My late-night gardening continues.  Because of this, much of the horicultural activity has been taking place in my kitchen. This has resulted in a chaotic kitchen with frequent scatterings of earth underfoot.  I’m looking forward to getting everything planted outdoors and reclaiming the space for exclusively culinary purposes.  I might even celebrate that happening with a fancy dinner party.  Possibly accompanied by the latest batch of home-made wine I’ve yet to bottle.

Garlic Transplant

The guilt finally got too much for me.  So despite the fact that the sun was low in the sky when I got back home today, I quickly grabbed the rapidly-growing bulbs from the garden and headed off to the allotment to get digging.

My neighbour from a couple of plots along also happened to be there, with a reassuring fire on the go. So I didn’t feel under as much pressure to get outta there as I normally do when I’m there around dusk.  And besides the human company there was also the occasional passing fox.

The main drawback once the sun has gone is not actually being able to see what you’re doing.  But thanks to the wonders of technology, and the flash facility on my camera phone, I now know that it’s 17 garlic plants I successfully managed to get into the ground. 🙂

From Quick to Thorough

It was going to be flying visit to my own plot yesterday as the plan was to help someone else trim a hedge.  My job was to be driving a tractor which I was quite looking forward to, never done it before. But when the battery turned out to be flat I wasn’t too disappointed as it meant more time spent getting on with my own chores.

Got lots done before having to fly off and pic up some groovy bright red chairs.

New Year

A new year that’s fast becoming an old year!

Pleased to say that much meditative mindfulness took place in the first two months of 2015, a mindful state that was accompanied by total silence on the blog front.  Last weekend I did get started on the allotment though, so here are some pics to get back into it.

First job was cleaning grassy carpets:

I also gave the brambles a good prune.  There was loads to cut back, but I only thought of taking a picture once I was finished, so here’s a shot of it in semi-darkness:

Once I got home I remembered having heard something about garlic needing to go in the ground before 21st Feb.  So I quickly stuck it in a planter in the garden.  Next day I googled it but couldn’t find any reference to that deadline.  Oh well good to have got it started anyway.  Better nestled in the earth already than in hidden away in some drawer somewhere that doesn’t get opened again till mid-summer…
